| FAQ |
| What
is EBT? |
| EBT is Electron
Beam Tomography, state-of-the-art imaging technology.
You may have heard EBT referred to as EBCT and/or Ultrafast
CT. |
|
How does EBT differ from CT?
|
|
Unlike regular CT, EBT is FDA approved to measure plaque
in the arteries of the heart; it's very accurate, has a lower
radiation dose and can be used to monitor therapy effectiveness.
When speed is essential, as in the imaging of a moving object
like the beating heart, the EBT scanner is recognized within
the medical community as the "gold standard"
Unlike slower mechanical CT's including those in church parking
lots you may have heard about, only the LIFETEST EBT scanner
is fast and accurate enough to find heart disease at its earliest
stages when it can be more easily treated.
|
| What
if I am claustrophobic? Is the scanner enclosed? |
| The EBT scanner
has a very open design - your head is not enclosed. You
can see the ceiling! |
| Do
I have to take my clothes off? |
| You remain fully clothed during the
test. EBT scans are quick, simple, painless, and involve
no needles or dyes. |
| Do
I have to hold my breath? |
| Yes, for up to
20 seconds. |
| What
about radiation? Are there risks involved? |
| EBT scans are low-dose...no
more that most x-rays |
| Does
the test require a physician's order? |
|
The State of Georgia requires a physician referral
for all radiological tests - so yes you will need a physician's
order for all scans/screens in Atlanta. If you do
not have a physician, call LIFETEST and we will be happy
to help
you find one.
|
| Does
my insurance cover a scan? |
|
As with all medical facilities,
you are responsible for full payment, including co-payments
and deductibles required by your insurance.
Unfortunately, most health insurance will not reimburse for
preventive screenings.
