Heart/Coronary Artery Screen

The EBT Heart Screen is the "gold-standard" in CT imaging of the heart and is 98% accurate in ruling out coronary artery disease compared to 40% or less for a standard stress test.  A Heart screen shows calcified plaque that forms on top of soft plaque that may build up inside the arteries and block the blood flow that supplies the heart.

The Heart Screen takes about 10 minutes, is painless and non-invasive.  There are no needles or dyes.  You lie down on the scanner table -- your head is not enclosed.  You hold your breath a few times and that's it!

A board-certified radiologist interprets your images and a report is sent to you and your doctor.

Background on Heart Disease

Heart disease continues to be the #1 cause of death and disability in the United States.  Unfortunately, many times it does not display any recognizable symptoms and the first sign of heart disease may be a heart attack and possibly death.

Most heart disease and heart attacks are caused by a process called arteriosclerosis, sometimes known as "hardening of the arteries".  Cholesterol particles deposit themselves to the inside walls of the arteries and gradually builds up to form "plaque".  When plaque gets big enough, it can obstruct blood flow or break off to cause a heart attack.  As the plaque ages, it can harden or "calcify".

This calcified plaque is what a LIFETEST EBT Heart screen detects earlier than any other CT scanner -- when treatment is easier, less invasive and more efficient.
